"Sungjoo, where
is the origin of Sungjoo,
Receiving pine seeds from
Jebeewon in the land of
Andong, Gyeonsangdo,
Scattering them roughly
here and there,
The inside is growing
up and up,
And became a round column.
And became a tall and
exuberant pine tree,
Alas! Long live~!"
'Sungjoo-puree', commonly
sung all over the nation
from Jejoo Island to Hangyung
Province, is for singing
and dancing in a narrative
way about a god having
created a house.
It has a bit different
trait or story depending
on each area, but it is
still meaningful in that
all state the common myth
about creating a house.
In Sungjoo-puree, the
myth sings like this,
'From Jebeewon in the
land of Andong, Gyungsang
Province, a pine seed
was blown up to our town,
and this pine seed grew
up to be a big tree. With
the wood from the tree,
we've made round columns
and connected crossbeams,
so how peaceful and well
my house will be!'.

Likewise, Sungjoo-puree is a story
trying to find the identity of
a house by singing about the origin
where the Sungjoo-shin(god) of
one's house comes from. It deals
with the process that a pine seed
becomes a wooden material, and
a carpenter trims it and build
a house out of it.
The beginning of the song starts
with a question about the origin
of Sungjoo most of the time, and
the answer is, of course,
'Jebeewon' in the land of Andong,
Gyungsang Province. The reason
why all the answers are the same
as the original home of
Sungjoo is Jebeewon is because
people believed that all the wooden
materials used to build a house
were from the
pine seeds of Jebeewon. |

| There used to be a huge and good-shaped
pine tree called 'Daebusong' in Jebeewon,
and the seeds from the pine tree were
collected
and scattered here and there. At first,
they were as small as needles soaked
by dews at night and dried by sunlights
during the daytime,
but grew up gradually to be Sobudong
and even Daebudong. Sobudong could be
wooden materials for columns while Daebudong
for
crossbeams. Accordingly, all the columns
and crossbeams of each house were from
Daebusong, which tells that Andong Jebeewon
is
the original place(Mecca) of Sungjoo
faith as well as the home of Sungjoo.
